RE: Software on Zip

John and all,

That link to a software-on-Zip offer is
instructive in the extreme. Thanks. It suggests
a new mode of software distribution. Instead
of using a Zip to distribute software for
installation on one's hard drive, a software
firm could use the Zip to distribute software
that would simply run directly off the Zip,
in perpetuity. My guess is that this could
become very popular. Windows could even
include some kind of "Zip-look" utility
that would peek at any inserted Zip disk
to see if it's a "software module" and, if
so, add its shortcut to one's desktop, etc.
All this would avoid all the installation
hassles currently associated with any apps
one uses. This could very well prove to be
popular as a medium for software distribution.
If you're buying an app for a couple hundred
bucks, the cost of the Zip disk would be a
trivial component of the total cost, especially
if using it means you can avoid all the costs
associated with install programs and all the
beta testing and tech support that goes with
them.

Cheers (or, as the hippies used to say,
peacelovedope <g>), Tom (long IOM)
