Z-- There is no question that the US was complicitous in Saddam/Iraqi actions, and I condemn us for it. Even tho the excuse was that Iran was a worse evil and a bigger threat, I still condemn us.
Bush, in his State of the Union did allocate money to fight AIDS in Africa. I thought it was a cynical political gesture, but better than nothing. He also pointed out that 70% of food relief is from the US.
I agree with almost everything you wrote, but that is not incompatible with eliminating Saddam.
I do differ with you about Saddam's compliance with the inspections. So do the inspectors.
I am also aware that being right is easy, but that being effective is a challenge. If Saddam would comply with the inspectors and cease his Stalinist methods, rather than lose many lives, we should allow him to stay. If not, Bush is, IMO, correct. The inspectors would not be there without the strong arming of Bush.
However, the world should be more prepared to take clear positions as the terrorist situations you correctly cite, occur.
