Labor's resolve to sit in opposition is starting to crack already. What a shock -g-

Ben-Eliezer: Labor must consider unity if PM serious about talks

Education Minister Livnat: Sharon wants broad coalition 'with all his heart'; Katsav calls on Mitzna to join coalition led by prime minister.

If Prime Minister Ariel Sharon proves he is serious about a diplomatic process, the Labor Party must consider joining a unity government, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer said Wednesday.

Speaking in an interview to Channel Two television, the former Labor leader said that, "If it becomes clear to us that this is a prime minister who intends to enter serious diplomatic negotiations based on the roadmap of [U.S. President George W.] Bush, we need to consider joining" a unity government.

I heard Ari Shavit of Ha'aretz on the radio this morning suggest that Sharon would try to woo Labor and would not be too hasty to try to form a coalition. Cobbling together a caretaker government for a few weeks would be just fine by him. Why? So that when the Iraq War starts, Labor can use the "national emergency" as a face-saving device to enter the government.

Sounds about right to me.
