That is why they need an unbiased (nope, not the US, obviously) third party to broker a peace deal.

Actually, this is not the case.. And in fact, you can see that BOTH sides have sought out the US as being the ONLY nation on the planet that they both turn to when seeking an intermediary.. Need I count the vast number of conferences (Wye River, Camp David.. etc) that have taken place because a US administration was willing to step up and try and broker a peace settlement?? You don't see the Chinese stepping up to the plate here.. Nor the Russians.. Nor the French or Germans... Only the US. And we're blamed no matter what happens... Just as we're blamed when we pull ourselves back from being engaged in the peace process...

Thus, I say that if we're going to catch the flack either way, then we should just go ahead and make them both come to peace, even if it means overthrowing a few despotic regimes in the process and trying to alter the political landscape in the region..

Democracy very well may not work for Arab nations.. But it's never REALLY been attempted.. There are constant excuses being provided for why Arabs can not handle democracy and live peacefully. Well... I say the current situation isn't working so what's wrong with trying some democratic reforms, even if imposed by the US..

At least we'll have done something worth either taking the blame, or the credit, for..

Bush used Iraq to rally the country behind him in the latest elections.

Let's get something straight here Zonder.. The issue is NOT Iraq. It's Saddam Hussein and his despotic rule that is the issue. No one has an issue with the average disenfranchised and terrorised Iraqi citizen. We're not going to war against them.. If anything, we're coming to liberate them..

You, along with many others, have subconciously bought into this theory that the US is waging war against the Iraqi people. And that's just not the case.
