That really hurt American credibility, of whether or not America backs up it's words with action. I agree with all of that. We should have stood behind the Kurds and the (Shiite?) Muslims after leading them to believe we would. It's not the first time, though. The same thing happened in Hungary in 1956 under Eisenhower and with Kennedy cancelling air cover for the Cuban invasion but not completely canceling the invasion.
