John, there is no chance of the US going alone. The question is, with or without UNSC approval? Either way, the US will have allies - Britain, Australia, Turkey, Kuwait, Italy, Spain, etc.

I beg to differ, Nadine. The "go it alone" perception is usually tied to the absence of UNSC approval. So the question actually, if I had been a bit more careful with my wording here, might be, what level of support exists for going without UNSC approval.

But there is also a related question, one I had in mind with my framing of "going alone." And that is if the numbers are few and the countries are more than usually vulnerable to American arm twisting, would that be still perceived as "going alone." Neither of us knows the answer to how the public would perceive that. However, my guess is that the list you've offered would still be perceived as "going alone."
