I have no statistics, since it is not an obsession of mine.
The simple fact is that Chung is not Jewish by any definition.
My only point in referring to lack of strong ties, religious or ethnic, to the Jewish community, is that the mere fact of ethnicity is nothing to make a point of. Unless you can show that it especially differentiates them in sensibility and judgment from those gentiles around them, why make a point of Jew counting? Only an anti- semite would do that.
The peculiarity of Nazi racial laws was that one was counted Jewish if one had a single Jewish grandparent, even if one had been raised a Lutheran. In other words, what added to the horror was that degree of assimilation did not matter, they were so racist they killed anyone with a significant Jewish ancestory. Precisely what is disturbing about you is the insistence that it is insidious that so many "Jews" are in the media, even if they are, in fact, not Jewish (Chung), or have Jewish "blood", but were not raised as Jews, like Newman. |
