We will all see soon enough. Let's see who takes over the oil fields of Iraq after the US invasion.

My understanding is that this is primarily about the oil and secondarily about gaining a "foothold" in the region.

Just think about it – what is the alternative?

How about leading by example rather than bullying, a bit more respect for international treaties rather than trying to be above the law, giving incentives rather than throwing around threats of invasion?

Ongoing conflicts, further radicalization of Muslims, and, eventually, today's "extremists" would become tomorrow's "mainstream" – and holders of political power.

I thought we were talking about Iraq, not Saudi Arabia.

Need I remind you that Iraq is NOT an Islamist state and is arguably the most secular Arab country in the region? Should I point out that the "radical Muslims" and the "extremists" that killed thousands in New York about a year ago were Saudis and not Iraqis, and that no relationship has been established between Iraq and terrorist organizations? (No, I am sorry but your president saying so is not the same thing :-)

What I am afraid of is that the invasion of Iraq will make matters worse re radical Islam and terrorism. It is a Very Bad Idea and will certainly serve into the hands of terrorist organizations, who will have proved that America is the "invading devil" (or something) that needs to be countered.

As I said before, this invasion will have many consequences. I doubt if increased security for Americans will be one of them. Neither will decreased Islamist threat, most probably...
