Excellent! Gore Vidal pegs that as the moment when the U.S. shifted from Republic to Empire.

And we have supported Filipino dictators for years, notably the brutal tyrant Marcos. But don't expect impassioned pleas for the civil rights of Filipinos from these right-wingers. Any country that opens it's economy to exploitation by Western corporations is exempt from criticism.
