I bought the new cable at Radio Shack and wouldn't even think of returning it since I ripped the casing apart and used it. About the 3 in 1 - one of the reasons I think it might be the device is because when you plug it into the computer even without their software, the Windows Wizard does not even detect it. When I tried plugging in my HP scanner from my other computer, which is also a USB, the Windows Wizard came up right away. Hope I'm right with this and that is all it is. If it isn't, I will once again delete the software, and this time I know how to disable the virus software(LOL),and will do that before reinstalling the HP software and see if that helps.
