American Spirit, Why should the size of the estate affect the tax penalty? Also, the same thing can be applied to the current income tax structure. Why should I have to pay 39 cents of a dollar federal tax when another guy only pays 7 cents of a dollar? I'm going to be paying more anyway because I have a higher income, so why make me pay the higher rate? The waste in the government is not going to be fixed by raising taxes. Your assumptions of the richest people paying no taxes or using loopholes is what urban legends are made of. Why should my family have to write a check for more than half the value of my farm when I die? Steve
