====================================================================== SGS-Thomson, Toshiba, Samsung Adopt New Suite for Complex IC Designs
WILSONVILLE, Ore., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ:MENT) today announced it has completed three major orders for its physical verification design software. Mentor Graphics will supply its advanced Calibre(TM) physical verification tool family to SGS-Thomson, Toshiba Corporation, and Samsung Electronics. Toshiba Corporation and Samsung have also purchased Mentor Graphics' newly announced xCalibre(TM) parasitic extraction tool family. Design teams from multiple industries, including computer, communications and multimedia, are adopting Calibre and xCalibre for deep submicron memory and logic designs. According to design technology management consulting firm Collett International, the bulk of all IC and ASIC designs will have shifted to 0.35 micron by the end of 1997. Such density mandates flexible physical verification and parasitic extraction technology to ensure reliable chip fabrication. Calibre/xCalibre's powerful physical verification and extraction capabilities accommodate the most advanced IC design flows and methodologies.
"Golden Tool" for SGS-Thomson "In targeting 0.35- and 0.25-micron technology, SGS-Thomson has run into serious limitations with its existing physical verification methodologies," said Joseph Borel, executive vice president of Central R&D at SGS-Thomson. "Mentor Graphics' Calibre is the only product on the market today that can manage full-chip verification at these geometries." "Calibre has provided SGS-Thomson with a 4X to 60X improvement in productivity over our current solution in final verification," said Jean-Marc Chateau, technical director of SGS-Thomson's Programmable Products Group. "We expect Calibre's flexibility to offer even greater advantages in the future when more chips are super-integrated systems with very large on-board memory arrays. It will be our "golden" tool for physical verification."
Tool for the Future "Toshiba evaluated a number of tools for deep submicron design process, and found Calibre/xCalibre the best as a tool suite," said Dr. Susumu Kohyama, vice president, deputy group executive, Semiconductor Group, Toshiba Corporation. "Mentor Graphics' solution met the company's requirements of high performance and high accuracy for physical verification that will be able to handle even more complex designs in the future." Mentor Graphics Corporation is a world leader in electronic hardware and software design solutions, providing products and consulting services for the world's largest electronics and semiconductor companies.
