If you supported SDI from day 1 and we'd spent all that money on it for 20 years, what good would it have done us? You'd be talking 100-200 billion by now wasted. Maybe you should re-think your original assumption. The Cold War is over. ICBM's are not our problem. And Star Wars doesn't work and may never work. But experiment away. But deploy prematurely? Irresonsible and a big waste of money. We are far more likely to be hit by a terrorist anthrax attack or dirty bomb than some "rogue nation"'s ICBM that doesn't even exist. And in case you haven't heard we're kind of allies with Russia now. And China? Please do not rattle sabers at them. I pray we never have to enter another cold war based on over-aggressive foreign policy. I dont see China wanting to commit suicide. And since everything we buy these days is made in China why would Bush want trouble with them? doesn't make sense. Therefore, SDI seems utterly useless. Defense against an imaginary enemy. Another big pentagon boondoggle brought to us by well-connected lobbyists, like the Sgt York missile system. first thing the new GOP voted on was to allow lobbyists to wine and dine them again without reporting. Corruption is a real danger now. And like Eisenhower told us, beware the industrial-military complex with too much power. They have it again now.
