rrufff, switching to margin is not always an option:
1) If you do, and don't have 25K in the account, you have other daytrading restrictions
2) some accounts cannot be enabled for margin - IRA for example
As for the difference between Ameritrade and DATEK accounts, basically since the merger, DATEK site had cosmetic changes done to it, like the name change. Other than that, the systems are still separate.
Pros/Cons for switching to Ameritrade account:
Pros:
* better account handling as far as cash account regulations
* Better options trading including Complex Options trading online
* direct order routing
* Better site reliability
* AON (All Or None), DNR and FOK order options
* New MOC, EOM, EOW, GTD time frames for Limit orders
Cons:
* No Trailing STOPS (yet)
* DATEK has site navigation IMHO, though with QuoteTracker, you wouldn't need to access either site via browser anymore :)
* DATEK has better extended hours trading |
