The modern day medieval siege might be the best US approach to my defense. However, it will be exceedingly hard to execute, especially the part about feeding the population, as that kind of aid sort of runs counterintuitive to what sieges are all about. Do you cut off water to these cities? I'm not sure Saddum just let's people stream out of his cities as refugees seeking US assistance either? One thing I am sure about though, his goons will be well stocked and supplied.
