SEOD,
Re: If it happens we will bomb their command, control, and information networks to oblivion, disable their integrated air defense, and make a lightening strike on the oilfields. After that I would assume we would lay siege to the urban centers, and mount a massive food aid program to keep the populations fed while we waited.
Now I understand much better why contributors on this thread can seem to so blithely carry on about the weather and storage draws. It appears that there is a complete lack of understanding of how war is fought and what level of suffering is about to be rained down on millions of innocent people.
1) "we will bomb their command, control, and information networks to oblivion"
Most of these C&C installations are inextricably mixed in with the civilian infrastructure. It is naive to believe Dept. of Defense whitewash about how precisely we will be targeting just the bad guys. The very first thing that the U.S. will do is to destroy the electrical and water supply infrastructure throughout the country and in particular urban centers such as Baghdad. The target is civilian populations. The attacks on Iraq will appear fairly indiscriminate to those on ground in Iraq. Conversely, the attacks will appear to be surgical "Nintendo" type strikes to the American public who will once again be convinced that that images they are fed via TV are real. Nothing could be further from the truth, which the Dept. of Defense has just about completely hidden from the American public, substituting a sanitized PG-13 rated version what is going to be horrible slaughter.
Re: I would assume we would lay siege to the urban centers, and mount a massive food aid program to keep the populations fed while we waited
That sounds like the Amnesty International plan of attack. I assure you it would be the first time in history that any aggressor nation ever showed such compassion for a recalcitrant enemy population. Truly, you seem to be on some sort of fantasy island with this speculation. We're going to feed them as we attack them? Yeah, right. And I'm the Queen of England. We will not be feeding the enemy, fuggedaboutit.
Get real. We mean to murder civilians by the tens of thousands if not in wholesale quantities with tactical nukes.
And think about this for a minute. The U.S. forces are being inoculated against small pox. The U.S. army has a history of using small pox in war. USAMRIID - Ft. Detrick has the largest known collection of small pox in the world. Most intelligent observers realize that there is a high likelihood that if the U.S. meets an intransigent resistance in an urban setting like Baghdad that it will not hestitate to use all the tools in its arsenal to break the seige. A small pox epidemic, propagandistically sold to the American populace as an evil act by a madman like Saddam would fool a large percentage of the American population, and the actual perpetrators of this heinous act would be undiscoverable in the fog of war.
Remember, the anthrax attacks of autumn, 2001 were a political act designed to intimidate and soften Congress's will to resist the march to empire. Would these same people show any more concern about a foreign enemy than they do a political enemy?
