You may right about the house of Saud but they have been on the skids for a while. There is a book out called Chaostan, whose author I can't remember.
I believe that he has a handle on what is happening. Basically the ME has been a tinder box for a long time, but most of us have just become aware of the problems. My pet theory is that the administration understands the situation and that one of the motives for going into Iraq is to give us an American power base from which we will be able to react to ongoing problems in the ME. I am not sure it is a sound policy, but I think if I had to make a decision, given all the posssibilities and choices, it is likely a necessary policy given the neglect of the situation by past administrations including Clinton, Daddy Bush and RR.
The reality is the arab street hates america, that somehow religion is tied up in this mess and that if we don't act we will likely see more terrorism. I guess if I had to make a choice, at this time, the only choice is to use force to protect ourselves. The consequences of not acting are too horrible to contemplate.
Could you imagine what would hapen if a nuke went off in America, or small pox killed millions or some other such catastrophe set off by the religious extremists.
If I were in Bush's shoes and I did nothing to stop it, I couldn't live with myself. I hope and pray that we will never have to face that problem and given some bad choices, I think the President is about right.
