but the dismantling of the British Empire is something the Brits oughta be given credit for. Actually, credit for that also primarily falls to the US. Because US policy, and Britain's reliance upon us during the war, led to decolonozation by all the former imperial powers, including France, Belgium, and the Dutch.. Churchill, for all of his pugnacious brilliance, was an imperialist (and unashamedly so). The botched French-British-Israeli attempt to recapture the Suez canal was the final straw for Britain's imperial aspirations.. And Eisenhower's forceful demand for a withdrawal from Suez put the nail in the coffin... Hawk
