Another over the top Hanson column.

Look, Germany was re-educated, "brain-washed", if you want, after the end of World War II at Nuremberg. The German nation was drilled that it violated international law (which you despise so much). Germany learned the lesson, thoroughly. We now respect international law as the highest rule in relations between nations. Yes, the UNO has major weaknesses. But, as Konrad Adenauer used to say about bad politicians he had to negotiate with - "You have to take people as they are - you don't get any better ones." Well, not immediately, in any case. In the long run changes are possible. If the USA doesn't like the UNO - hey, it's your baby! You set up the rules. Make a better one! Maurice and I will help you!

Not all hope is lost, waiting for Powell on Wednesday. I never said that I oppose an Iraq operation which has been sanctioned by the UNSC. I only regard it as my duty to highlight risks as there are too many armchair generals around who seem to look forward to the "opening of the games".
