California has a $9b deficit this year, and from $26 to $35b over the coming 18 month period, according to the Sacramento Bee (posted earlier).

This is if revenue trends continue downward and no reductions in expenses are made.

The reason for the higher numbers, according to a GOP opponent to Davis, is that Davis wishes to poor-mouth Calif. to get Washington funds, and to get redress for the Enron billions that were siphoned out in '00 and '01
