That's what I thought, but something is fishy because both of my translator programs think it is madera. Whatever the spelling, it is Spanish for wood. The Limelighters made great fun out of their introduction of the song, and its namesake which was a sweet wine aged in oaken casks, hence wood. Maybe The Limelighters misspelled it!
