A sad day for all...

I have kin in Plano who heard the noise and immediately thought of ar terrorist bomb. All the car alarms and some of the home alarms were set off by it.

Isn't 200,000 ft the elevation the SR-71 (blackbird) used to cruise at? That would suggest that control surfaces are usable at that altitude.

I would not have thought that a dead-stick landing plan would have called for much residual fuel left on board. I thought the shuttle landed pretty much with empty tanks.

My take is that the "toxic hazard" story line is to ensure that the wreckage is undisturbed for maximum investigatory benefit.

Regards to All, our thoughts are with the families of the missing.
