If you want to look for evil dictators, you don't have to look far. The former leader of Burma, drug dealing agent of death, Ne Win, was probably even a better candidate than Saddam by body count. The current government is not much better.

We must have missed that one on our radar screen. There are plenty of dictatorial nations to free. Maybe if we made that a priority, we would have the high moral ground and our ire over Saddam wouldn't sound so hollow. The ONLY reason that I see for us to focus on Saddam and Saddam alone, is oil. Other dictators and oppressors (like in East Timor) are routinely ignored by the U.S.

When Bush, Sr. went into Kuwait, it was advertised as "freeing the people of Kuwait". The problem with that was the people of Kuwait were never free. 90% of the people there couldn't vote. They are actually having open elections in Iran these days, which makes it more free than Kuwait. Iraq and Iran had been trading gunfire for decades but it served our interests because of the friction between us and Iran.
