Lazurus will not believe Grey Davis is anything but the Devil himself. Be aware that a massive career assassination campaign has been going on against Davis for some time now. Enron and other Republican-friendly energy companies plus other right-wing PACS have spent a reported 25 million bucks trying to bring down Davis's approval ratings through negative and dishonest advertisements. Part of it was to blame him for the energy crisis (those ads slyly paid for by the real perpetrators), the rest is to try and somehow return a Republican to power here where the Democrats now control almost the entire state. The key for Republicans would be to run moderate environmental Republicans but they wont do this. They always pick the extreme right-wingers with ties to the polluters and over-developers. The GOP refused to back Dick Riordan who might have beaten Davis. Because Riordan was actually a friend of Davis who contributed to his past campaigns. Riordan is the kind of man we Democrats can like, a man who is not owned by any party, is pro-choice and sees both sides of the issues. Davis is ironically also a moderate and green/pro-business. That is why initially Bush was very afraid of him, that he might run against him in 2004. The orchestrated phony energy crisis aimed against California in particular took care of that. Now the GOP wants to run Arnold Schwartzeneggar. Interesting choice after they bash and bash any movie star who speaks out against Bush. I know Arnold a little and I will tell you he is formidable at PR, but he also has skeletons in his closet. For instance, in his early days he used to be the biggest steroid dealer in LA. That is why his health is so poor now. He was a steroid addict. Despite that though Arnold might beat a weakened Davis, if he is still weakened in 2006.
