I had called my two younger kids downstairs this morning to watch the landing. My middle boy was wearing his flight suit from space camp, we were all giggling on the bed waiting for it to appear when the station reported that NASA had lost the signal and had received no further communication with the shuttle.

We watched the reports for the next 30 minutes and then shut off the TV. I asked them if they had any questions about what just happened, they said no, not now but maybe later. We said a prayer for the families and left it at that for the time being.

Later will be filled with a multitude of questions most of which can't be answered to the satisfaction of 11 and 9 year olds.
