I feel sorry for the loss of the 7 astronaut lives on board. On the other hand, I also learned (from the other poster) that the Israeli astronaut on board was the F-16 fighter pilot that led the raid that destroyed the Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981. It seems obvious that the mission of Space shuttle Columbia was also meant to symbolize the great cooperation between Israel and US governments on the war against Iraq. Another writing on the wall for the endeavor?
