After the State of Israel was proclaimed about 700,000 Jews were expelled from their homes in Arab countries and absorbed by the new State. This was approximately the number of Arabs that left (either fled or "encouraged" to leave) from Israel.

It is unfortunate that the Arab countries did not absorb their fellow Arabs but used them as political pawns. Such use of course continues.

I read someplace that there were Jewish communities throughout the arab world not so long ago. Wasn't there a large one even in Baghdad and in Cairo, in fact all over Egypt and Damascus and...what happened? Why do those communities no longer exist in these places?
