<< i don't trust our government or media. >> First, you need to learn how to understand what you are reading. There are tons of news sources in this country, representing all different shades of conservative to liberal. Most news releases and coverages are either verified, or swiftly condemned. In fact, when members of our major media outlets make a mistake, or misrepresent the news, there is usually a big stink about it. There ARE checks and balances. If you don't like this type of news or media system, it has got to be because you don't understand it, or don't know how to understand it.
