["using the false pretense of Weapons of Mass Destruction when our real motive is securing oil during the widening Islamic Wars..."]
Jim, to anyone other than those who choose to turn a blind-political agenda fitting eye towards reality; there is no false pretense, or doubt whatsoever; that Saddam has and had WMD's and used them against his own people - the Kurds during the Gulf War (how is this little fact so conveniently forgotten/denied ?!?!?!).
Also, the Hans-Blick/Inspector Clousseau UN Charade aside; there is also no question that Saddam still has virtually his entire stockpile of WMD's left from the Gulf War, but most importantly that he has been aggresively upgrading his bio & chemical weapon stockpile and has a hyper-active and aggressive ongoing nuclear program.
I think most clear-thinking people realize that the American public & press can never be privy to most high-level military & political intelligence that most heavily weighs on our most important US Political decisions.
Spies, moles and back-channel communication's have always existed and quite understandably, these sources can not be compromised in the name of appeasing the press, or public opinion polls.
Anyone who denies that Saddam possesses, will use and is aggressively seeking to upgrade WMD's and that he has and is still willing to both finance & arm other anti-American Terrorist organizations is simply naive, or in political self-denial.
Saddam and his Black-Market Oil Proceeds are the Worlds largest global source of terrorist-financing - period.
And actually Jim; while I'm sure you meant it in a different context; this War is partially about SECURING OIL...as in securing & stabilizing the Oil Fields that both finance Saddam's regime, but also are the #1 source of financing global terrorism in general.
If we failed to secure the Mid-East Oil Fields and allowed Saddam to sabotage his own fields and even launch an attack on other nearby OPEC producing fields - crashing the already fragile global economy into free-fall; you and other political liberals would be the first critic's of the Bush Administration for failing to both anticipate this happening and doing something to make sure it didn't happen.
...this is personified by the duplicitous hypocrites who hammered the Bush Administration for failing to act on non-public internal intelligence information in preventing the Sept 11th Terrorist attacks.... and here once again, these same duplicitous hypocrites now decry Bush for acting on that same internal non-public intelligence in reigning in the greatest Terrorist Threat to America and the Free World - Saddam.
In the Liberal world... damned if you do, damned if you don't ?!?!
But, contrary to liberal hyperbole; this War is not entirely about Oil, but Oil is certainly a "weapon of mass ECONOMIC & GEOPOLITICAL destruction" (WMEGPD's) that Saddam and other Radical Fundamentalist Regimes, or Terrorists wouldn't fail to use against America and the Free World.
Stabilizing the Global Oil Supply is fundamental to fighting the War on Terrorism and Saddam is Job #1... and we all just might be surprised what happens with the Saudi's next (another reason for physically securing and stabilizng ME Oil Supply).
And for those straw-man arguements, as to why don't we invade Korea, or China; since they are oppressive regimes and have sponsored, supplied and aided global terrorists... a little commonsense must prevail.... the keywords and concepts of America intervening and leading the Global Fight against Evil & Terrorism; is "when, where and how" it can.
Escalating tensions with the former Soviet Empire to a Nuclear-WWIII level wasn't the answer and we obviously couldn't invade the Soviet's...but, we indeed did finally "tear down that Wall" - "where, when & how" we could....thanks to our 40th President, Ronald Reagan.
China and Korea must and will be dealt with - "where, when & how" we can... as will Iraq, who must and will be dealt with - NOW.
Fighting Evil and Terrorism is not a - one size (method) fits all - proposition. Never has been, never can be and never will be.
It's the height of political hypocrisy to use these ridiculous arguements - of why are we going to invade Iraq, when we allow Oppressive Regimes like China, or Korea, or the huge slaughters within Africa to reign on ?
Again, a little common sense of "where, when & how" must prevail.
America has not always been perfect... we have had our share of dirty little secrets and clear political mistakes. But, no Nation and no people have been so generous to the rest of the World, or have the Legacy of Fighting the Good Fights; when, where & how possible for the good of the rest of the Free World - than America.
Thankfully; the Bush Administration is going to proceed regardless of the politcal price involved; to make both America and the Free World a safer place in which to live and once again we'll add another name to the legacy of Roosevelt, Churchill and Regan; of a leader who rose to meet the challenge of Evil during his time and place in history....and you and your children and perhaps their children; will have decades of peace because of it. |
