No one is in denial over the myriad of foreign policy mistakes that exist in US history...but, conversely; no one should be in denial for the myriad of foreign policy success's either.
LBJ & the Gulf of Tonkin incident take nothing away from America answering the bell to both define and fight the EVIL of Adolf Hitler & Japan in WWII.
Our propping up the Shah of Iran, or other repressive regimes, or blunders in Chile, or Argentina - take nothing away from Ronald Reagan tearing down the Soviet Empire's Wall of Communism, or our recent suppression of the regin of EVIL from Milosoveic.
And sometimes indeed; we are forced to choose between the lessor of two evils...sometimes, there is no perfect solution; sometimes we make the right decision, sometimes we don't...but, thankfully we've never shyed away from making tough decisions in tough times...and that's something that can't be said for 99% of the rest of the World.
Thankfully; Roosevelt, Reagan & now Bush - never let the political shackels of prior Foreign Policy Blunders, stop them from both defining and eliminating Evil.
America is not perfect, no people ever have been, nor will be. But, thankfully we have a legacy of leading the free world in correctly defining and also in eliminating EVIL, whenever it rears it's ugly head...and right here, right now; Saddam represents the "head" of Global Terrorism and we're going to cut the head off...so the body dies.
Aint going to be pretty, aint going to be without huge costs and aint going to be without innocent casualties; but there is no other choice... wasn't in WWI, wasn't in WWII, wasn't with the Soviet Evil Empire of the Iron Curtain, wasn't with Milosoveic and isn't with Saddam. |
