I mention the Dow as a proxy for the whole US market. In fact, Alan raised the point about the replacing of weak stocks with strong ones. However, if you look at this relative strength chart you will see that the Dow is the weakest of the three major indices (of course, only at this point in time).

The chart shows that the Dow is down by about 9% in the past six months, S&P by about 7% and that the Naz is flat. Hardly major falls which one would expect from a collapsing economy.
