I know what your saying, as I thought that but I was
trying to make a point..however at those speeds
in the atmosphere anything that comes lose is
going to decelerate extremely fast due to resistance,
additionally the Shuttle is still accelerating
extremely fast, acceleration is almost 1000mph a minute.

At any rate their comparison of it to driving down the
freeway at 70mph was asinine, and insensitive

that was my point.
Honestly I don't know how hard the impact could have
been , but I didn't want to let that overly simplistic picture they drew stand.
