My old best friend ran Weld's campaign. He and I had a long talk about it. They could come up with NOTHING credible about Kerry, and they really tried. My friend also grudgingly admitted Kerry may be the next president. Kerry is a very difficult candidate to run against. And has tons of money.

Womanizing and drinking charges are all BS. Kerry hardly drinks at all. At the time 8 years ago he was single and dated, but so what? I'm glad he did. He's a heterosexual.

As for his Vietnam war protest, he got standing ovations from the Citadel cadets in South carolina when he explained it to them. At first they'd been a bit hostile but afterward Chris Matthews took a show of hands and 3/4 supported Kerry's protest of the war. Because by 1972 that war should have been OVER and wasn't. Kerry's protests were to save lives of his brothers-in-arms, something chickenhawks dont value I guess.

Kerry-McCain are now the #1 defenders of veterans rights. Kerry will enjoy enormous support from vets and military voters. And for good reason. Contrary to some opinion, the military are not super-hawks wanting war. They just want to be well-prepared and well-supported when they're called to go in. And they want their cause to be just, clear and popular. They also want a smart and very experienced coammander in chief. And not one who went AWOL when it was his turn to serve.
