There is no doubt that it will not be easy, but doing nothing guarantees only even more turmoil down the road:

You know, Hawk, as painful as it has been, this exchange with you has finally revealed to me just what exactly has been nagging me about this whole Iraq invasion, and I am grateful to you for that.

The sticking point:

How many Iraqis, and who exactly, will need to be killed before we have achieved our aims?

This thread tells me that a surgical Special Ops strike to remove just Saddam will not be enough.

In that case, who then?

Do we take out all his staff, down to the file clerks? Relatives?

And what if one of them wants to surrender, where do they go? Do we have somewhere ready to receive them?

Then do we hold them in perpetuity, or do we release them and trust that they will mend their ways under a new leader?

I feel better now, having finally gotten to what bugs me the most about this invasion.
