What would you have Israel do?

Either say the occupied territories are now Israel and make the Palestinians Israeli citizens with equal rights, or get out of there and let the guys build a future of their own. And stop building more and more settlements, if the latter is their choice.

Arafat agreed to the Oslo Accord not to use violence.

I am not sure it is Arafat who is using violence here. It seems there are quite a few terrorist groups out there that have benefited from the authority gap that resulted in the deliberate weakening of the Palestinian authority with house arrests and the like.

I'm sorry, I don't believe Mr. Arafat is entitled to have Israel

Neither do I. And that was never the topic here.

He had the chance to pick up some fine pieces of land to build a nation on, a good junk of Jerusalem

If you take a look at the map that was proposed, it looked more like gruyere cheese than a viable, independent country. I believe there were other reasons why it was unacceptable to the Palestinians.

Your best point here, I feel, would be "Why did he not make a counter offer, then?". And I don't know the answer to that. Maybe he was told to take it or leave it, no negotiation. Or perhaps he feeds off the conflict and does not want it to end, just like Sharon.
