Online concierge service to launch in US
London, February 3 2003, (netimperative)
by Richard Agnew
Quintessentially.com, the upmarket online and phone-based concierge service co-founded by Tom Parker-Bowles, son of Camilla, is to launch new offices in New York this week as it bids to tap the US market.
The venture, which was set up in December 2000 by entrepreneur Ben Elliot - along with Tom Parker-Bowles and friends - to provide exclusive travel and entertainment services, will officially open new offices in New York on Wednesday alongside Sony's high-end personal shopping division, Sony Cierge.
The move follows the firm's deal late last year to support Ask Jeeves' newly-launched online and phone-based 'butler' service in the UK, which is aimed at generating additional revenues from 'cash-rich, time-poor business' people. Members of Quintessentially can pay up to £2,000 per year for access to London members' clubs, tickets for film premieres, or simply to have their shirts ironed.
Quintessentially also supports the concierge service provided to users of Nokia's luxury mobile handset venture, Vertu.
Head of Quintessentially America Lynda Weatherhead told netimperative it was "natural" for the company to gain a physical presence in New York, but said there were no further plans for expansion in the offing.
She refused to supply details of Ask Jeeves and Vertu users but said Quintessentially now had 4,500 members worldwide.
