InterMune Names Thomas R. Hodgson to Board of Directors

BRISBANE, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- InterMune, Inc. (Nasdaq: ITMN - News) announced today that Thomas R. Hodgson, former president and chief operating officer of Abbott Laboratories, has been appointed to the Board of Directors.

Mr. Hodgson brings nearly 30 years of management experience from the pharmaceutical industry, most recently from Abbott Laboratories, where he worked in general management roles with increasing responsibility for more than 20 years. He served as President of the Hospital Products Division from 1978 to 1983; Executive Vice President and President of the International Division from 1983 to 1990; and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 1985. He was elected President and Chief Operating Officer in 1990 and continued in that role until his retirement in 1999.

Prior to joining Abbott in 1972, Mr. Hodgson was an associate with Booz Allen and Hamilton Management Consultants. He is a trustee of Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center, and is a member of the Board of Directors of The St. Paul Companies, Inc.; Idenix Pharmaceuticals; MacLean-Fogg Company and ARUP Laboratories.

Mr. Hodgson earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University, a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in engineering by Purdue University.
