Something for you to chew on:

The flip side of the problem comes in a new poll by the Democracy Corps, headed by Democrats James Carville, Stan Greenberg and Robert Shrum. That poll found that when asked which party is more trusted to keep the nation strong, Americans favored Republicans over Democrats 50 percent to 22 percent. Asked which party is more trusted to keep America safe, the Republican margin was 47 percent to 16 percent.
