Joe Klein just continues the same stupid overlooking of inconvenient facts:

Vast majorities of Jews and Arabs support this deal. The notion that war will somehow speed along a better one assumes the Palestinians will somehow change their minds about real statehood. They won't

About two-thirds of Jews support this deal. Somewhat less than half the Palestinians support this deal, if the polls are to be believed, and their undemocratic leadership does not support the deal at all, but says over and over (in Arabic): the right of return is more important than a state. There is no difference between the goals of Hamas and the PA.

It's not "real statehood" that the Palestinians have to change their minds about. It's the idea that by waging intifada, they can get land for no peace, land for war, another stage in the "plan of phases" to destroy Israel. Until they change their minds about the utility of the intifada plan, concessions will only be read as weakness, as they were in Lebanon.
