NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Bear Stearns Cos. (BSC) has dropped coverage of the semiconductor equipment sector, following the departure of analyst Robert Maire.
Russell Sherman, a spokesman for Bear Stearns, declined to comment on whether Maire resigned or was laid off. He said Bear Stearns is determining if it will resume coverage of the chip equipment industry at a later date. Maire wasn't immediately available to comment.
The companies that Bear Stearns will no longer cover include Applied Materials Inc. (AMAT), Agilent Technologies Inc. (A), KLA-Tencor Corp. (KLAC), Novellus Systems Inc. (NVLS), Teradyne Inc. (TER) and Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc. (VSEA).
The spokesman noted that the firm is continuing to cover chip companies like Intel Corp. (INTC) and Micron Technology Inc. (MU).
