Derek - National Semiconductor and Cyrix

National bought Fairchild several years ago and managed to take a poorly performing company and make it worse. They have recently spun off Fairchild as an independent company.

Interestingly, Brian Halla - CEO of National is a former Intel executive! ( and former LSI executive as well).

National Semi also bought (or owns) the rights to IIT's 486 compatible architecture. IIT was one of the 2 or 3 companies (along with Cyrix, ULSI Technology) that cloned the 387 chips several years back.

What a day! Two buyouts - Intel/Chips & National/Cyrix!
