<if the door had left in the early part of re-entry Then ground control and the crew would have known they were in really deep trouble What did they discuss?> IMHO, there would not have been time for a discussion. 2500-3000F temperature & travelling at Mach 18, no way there would be time to discuss/avoid the eventuality. I feel its time to let the experts do their work, and not speculate.
