Here is some research and thoughts behind this trade.

Leap Wireless International is a wireless communications carrier that deploys, owns, operates and participates in CDMA telecommunications networks in domestic and international markets. For the fiscal year ended 12/31/01, revenues totaled $255.2 million, up from $50.3 million. Net loss before extraordinary item totaled $483.3 million vs. an income of $4.6 million.

Market Cap is 382 million
Cash is 8.84/share
Short interest is 25%
Debt/Equity ratio is a huge 4.75
Total long term debt is 1.5 billion
Interest expense is -1.19 per share/quarter

EPS last 4 Quarters:
-3.88
-3.91
-4.43
-5.88 lst quarter
missed estimates 3 of these quarters

March quarter estimate is -4.31
June quarter estimate is -4.05
2002 estimate is -15.88
2003 estimate is -7.93

Where the hell is all this money going to come from?

They currently have enough cash to last under 3 quarters.
Then they will have to borrow like crazy to keep the doors open.

When their debt is downgraded to junk, it slights out Irene.

Also, the interest expense on about half their debt will rise significantly when rates start going up later this year.

In my opinion, this is a sure ZERO.
Just question of time.
Fundamentals dont get much worse than this.

That said, the stock price can easily reach 15 in the near term if market keeps climbing, so if you are short make sure you are well allocated to hadle any near term volatility.

Happy Trading
