Communism is like a (sudden) heart attack.
Democracy as practiced in west
(by the Sheeple and J6Ps, for the corrupt and power hungry elite crooks) is like a slow cancer.
Both will have their end with different time scale.
Hence there is a need to reinvent something else.
Not in our life time, I guess.

Perhaps the system was doomed just like communism, just outlasted Russia by a bit, but both ended up spending themselves into oblivion.
