I have not seen any gold in China -- outside of Hong Kong where gold ownership is common. What you need to remember about China is that the Chinese government holds hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign reserve, and they can increase their holdings of gold instead of US dollars and yen, which would not be surprising in the least.
