BBC has reported that a British intelligence report...

Yes, I am very interested to hear that BUT ---> the date of that report is critical. The "evidence" that Powell reported has been obtained in the last couple of months while released intelligence reports tend to be several months old.

As for attacking the PPK camps -
1) it may be shades of grey but the level of attrocities/threat associated with Al Qaida dwarfs that of the PPK (that I am aware of).
2) My proposed US attack would be at a very specific target to prove Iraqi complicity. Any Turkish action would have been more of an invasion going after many targets scattered among a resistant local population - far more messy.
3) Such a Turkish attack could give Sadam the pretext for yet another dirty war. This is what probably deterred Turkey and would certainly explain external pressures to avoid such an incident.
4) The US would probably receive a formal condemnation for its tactics. But the benefits from cementing an Al Qaida-Iraq connection would be well worth the criticism.

Of course this is all based on the assumption that our intel is as good as was just claimed.

One other point that I think you will agree on - Bush has been pushing the IRaq - Al Qaida connection for over a year and yet this is the first credible evidence that they have produced on the subject. Feels a bit like a rabbit out of a hat.

It will be interesting to see how this info is regurgitated over the next few days.
