Here's a roundup of news about the world of technology from the Web.

To The Moon In A Space Elevator?

The concept of a "space elevator" is getting more attention in the wake of the Columbia
shuttle disaster. Researchers at HighLift Systems are studying the feasibility of building a
"ribbon" that would stretch from the Earth's surface 62,000 miles into space, Wired reports.
An elevator could then climb this carbon-based structure to ferry materials or people to space
stations for a fraction of the cost of a shuttle flight. The project would cost about $10 billion
and take about 15 years. (MLP)
