You make a good point about nations using the nukes as a deterrent.

However, you seem to forget why they needed to do so originally.

Who is the only nation on earth ever to use a nuke on another nation, justifiable though it almost certainly was?

Can you now put yourself into the USSR's place and see why they felt they must develop nukes as well? Now try that same exercise with NK, Iran, Iraq, etc...

Perhaps we do need to try and stop any nation attempting to develop its own deterrence nukes, but even if we are successful this time, we are going to find ourselves in this same position over and over and over again until we disarm globally and multilaterally.

And as the world's only grownup, we will need to lead the way.
