Character counts, and I am quite suspect of Bush's character. He may not sleep around, but he tells voters one thing, does another, is a product of soft money and favors-for-contributions, has every polluter in the country funding him, covered up (at least) for the phony energy crisis, has a history of getting away with things like deserting from the Air Guard and insider trading at Harken energy (to name a few). He is also a former alcoholic who never worked a day in his life until he in his 40's and George Schultz suggested he run for Goveror (only if he stopped drinking). Bush has also gotten everything he's ever had because of Daddy's friends. Not his own man.
I respect John Kerry's character enormously. Instead of avoiding the war when he had the chance as Bush and Cheney did, Kerry volunteered to fighgt and became a top war hero. He is also one of the amrtest and most principaled men on the Hill and respected by both parties and the press enormously.
Clinton is irrelevant now, but I accepted the fact he screwed around so long as he did a great job, and a great job he DID do. Cannot argue with the success of those golden 7 years of peace and prosperity. I also felt violated by the right-wing smear campaigns which gave us Whitewater (Clinton found innocent of all charges) and going into the President's dirty linen asking for sperm samples and such. It was low, sleazy and unbefitting of those right-wing congressmen to permit such a thing. But all they cared about was political damage. No wonder all those Whitewater GOP congressmen were voted out in the next election. Shame on them and shame on you for supporting them, if you did. Also shame on Clinton for screwing around. But two wrongs dont make a right, do they? |
