My bolded points are most important to note as below: "Apparently the United States told Iraq that it was not officially interested in the issue. Saddam Hussein seems to have taken that to mean he had a free hand in dealing with his grievances, and on August 2, 1990, he invaded Kuwait". Classic media hyperbole and supposition. At least they used words like apparently and seems, instead of omitting apparently, and substituting "did" for seems to have. ~SB~
